Alaves appoint ex-Albania boss Gianni De Biasi to replace Luis Zubeldia

Gianni De Biasi replaces Luis Zubeldia as Alaves coach.

Alaves have appointed Gianni De Biasi as their new head coach.

The 61-year-old Italian replaces Luis Zubeldia, who was sacked following last weekend's defeat to Villarreal, and takes over an Alaves side who have yet to pick up a point or score a goal from five La Liga matches this season.

The experienced De Biasi counts the likes of Torino, Udinese, Levante and Brescia among his former clubs as a coach, while he was in charge of Albania for six years before stepping down this summer.

Alaves sack Luis Zubeldia after goalless, winless start to season

Zubeldia Alaves sacked
After earning no points and scoring no goals in their first four matches, Alaves are parting ways with Luis Zubeldia.

Alaves coach Luis Zubeldia has become the first manager to be sacked this season in La Liga.

The former Argentina player was let go by Alaves on Sunday after a 3-0 home loss to Villarreal, their fourth straight defeat that left them in last place with no goals scored.

Alaves said that Javier Cabello would be interim manager.

Zubeldia, 36, was hired in June to replace Mauricio Pellegrino, who left the club after guiding them to the final of the Copa del Rey last season, where they lost to Barcelona.

Barcelona loan Munir El Haddadi to Alaves for season

Barcelona forward Munir El Haddaddi has left the club on deadline day to join fellow La Liga side Alaves on loan until the end of the season.

Munir, 22, spent last season at Valencia, returning to Barcelona in the summer and taking part in preseason with Ernesto Valverde's squad.

However, he was never likely to stick around this season with sources telling ESPN FC in July that the former Spain under-21 international was surplus to requirements.

Valencia's Alvaro Medran joins fellow La Liga side Deportivo Alaves on loan

Sid Lowe explains why he doesn't think any clubs will pose a challenge to Real Madrid in the La Liga title race.

Alvaro Medran has joined Deportivo Alaves on loan from fellow La Liga side Valencia for the 2017-18 season.

Medran, a youth product of Real Madrid, joined Alaves on Friday in search of more playing time after making 16 La Liga appearances last term -- six of which came from the bench.

The 23-year-old central midfielder, who is under contract with Valencia until June 2020, joins Bojan Krkic at Alaves -- who signed on a season-long loan from Stoke City on Thursday.
