Alaves finally found their scoring touch at home to beat La Liga strugglers Granada 3-1.

The promoted Basques had made a promising start to life in the top flight by losing only one of their first five games.

But Alaves had failed to score at the Estadio Mendizorrotza with Sporting Gijon and Deportivo La Coruna holding them to goalless draws.

The LaLiga newcomers equalised on the brink of half-time when Gaizka Toquero headed in from Aleksandar Katai's corner.

The visitors came closest to scoring when Alaves defender Victor Laguardia headed against his own post with 10 minutes to go from a Faycal Fajr free kick.

On-loan Atletico Madrid wing-back Theo Hernandez possessed the most spark for Alaves, who remain unbeaten in their first four top-flight matches after being promoted as Segunda Division champions.

Guardiola, Bravo and Alaves rewarded for sticking to their principles

Peter Walton joins the FC crew and assesses Claudio Bravo's controversial tackle on Rooney, and if the ref got it right.

It wasn't simply because Jasper Cillessen looked pretty ordinary on both the goals, via which Barcelona lost to Alaves, that old friends Luis Enrique and Pep Guardiola were linked by Claudio Bravo at the weekend.

So much of football, once you take talent and fitness as basic staples, is about belief systems: confidence, psychology, conviction and dogged determination.

After Guardiola's team won at Old Trafford in that exceptional Manchester derby, he was asked whether he was troubled by how...
