Djaniny Tavares, the top scorer in the 2018 Clausura, has left Santos Laguna for Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli.

Djaniny Tavares has left Santos Laguna to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli, the Liga MX team announced on Friday.

Cape Verde international Djaniny netted 16 goals last season to lead the league and to fire Santos to the Clausura title and had been linked with a move to Sevilla earlier this summer.

A Santos Laguna statement indicated that Al-Ahli had met the 27-year-old's buy-out clause in his contract and added that he accepted the offer to move to Saudi Arabia.

Despite boycott, Saudi club Al Ahli draw in Qatar in Asian CL

Al Ahli, the first Saudi Arabian club to travel to Qatar since a regional boycott of the country began nine months ago, drew 1-1 with Al Gharafa in Doha in the Asian Champions League on Monday.

Australia international Mark Milligan completes $1 million move to Al-Ahli

Just a week after declaring Australia international Mark Milligan off-limits, A-League heavyweights Melbourne Victory have let the midfielder chase a lucrative contract in Saudi Arabia.

Victory rejected two offers for the 32-year-old marquee man before caving in to the advances of Jeddah-based club Al-Ahli for a reported sum of around AU$1 million.
