PSL wrap: Wins for Pirates, SuperSport

Orlando Pirates moved up to second in the Premier Soccer League standings following a 1-0 win against Ajax Cape Town on Tuesday evening.

The Buccaneers endured their worst-ever campaign last season, but have started life under Milutin Sredojevic much improved. They moved up to second following the win against a struggling Urban Warriors side, with Ghanaian forward Bernard Morrison getting the only goal.

That leaves Pirates level on points with surprise-package Maritzburg United, who remain unbeaten...

Big deals mark end of South African transfer window

The transfer window in South Africa's Premier Soccer League slammed shut with a bang on Thursday after a number of high-profile deals on deadline day.

One of these saw a star name depart the league as reigning PSL Player of the Season Lebogang Manyama joined Turkish side Konyaspor from Cape Town City for a fee believed to be €800 000. That transfer is subject to a medical, but that is unlikely to be an issue and will be conducted when Manyama has completed his national team duty with Bafana...

Ajax Cape Town will try and help defender Rivaldo Coetzee win his dream move overseas in January after the heartbreak of his failed signing for Scottish Premier League giants Glasgow Celtic.

The Urban Warriors had reached an agreement for the sale of Coetzee to Celtic last week, but the player failed a medical with a problem with a bone in his foot, which saw the deal collapse.

The 20-year-old has been left devastated and will now undergo surgery to correct the problem, with an expected absence...

Something's gotta give at Chiefs

You know the old saying about repeatedly banging your head against a brick wall and expecting a different result? That's what's happening at Kaizer Chiefs at the moment.

Another shambolic display in their 2-1 defeat against SuperSport United...

PSL wrap: Kaizer Chiefs held in league opener

Kaizer Chiefs let a lead slip in Bloemfontein in their Premier League opener on Sunday to mount more pressure on coach Steve Komphela.

The Amakhosi were desperate for a good start following last weekend's first round MTN8 Cup exit, and got it early on against Celtic when Erick Mathoho headed home from a free-kick.

However, Lorenzo Gordinho's handball in the 75th minute allowed Atusaye Nyondo a chance to equalize from the spot, and the Malawian made no mistake from the spot.

In the day's other game,...
