London mayor backs AFC Wimbledon's plans for Plough Lane return

AFC Wimbledon are trying to return to Plough Lane in Merton.

The last greyhound track in London faces extinction after mayor Sadiq Khan agreed the site should be used as a new stadium for AFC Wimbledon.

Plans for the Plough Lane development outline a 20,000-seat stadium, 602 homes and a leisure centre which would all be "of great benefit to Londoners and the wider community for generations to come."

It would move the League One side back to Merton in south-west London from its current near-5,000 capacity ground in Kingston-upon-Thames. The club has been there...

Stoke City swoop for AFC Wimbledon defender Ryan Sweeney

Ryan Sweeney has signed with Stoke City.

Stoke City have announced the signing of AFC Wimbledon defender Ryan Sweeney for an undisclosed fee.

The 19-year-old, who came through the Dons' academy, has penned a three-year deal with Mark Hughes' side.

Central defender Sweeney made 10 appearances for Wimbledon last term as they won promotion to League One via the playoffs.

Hull City complete signing of AFC Wimbledon goalkeeper Will Mannion

Will Mannion was also wanted by Liverpool and Stoke.

Hull City have signed highly-rated goalkeeper Will Mannion from AFC Wimbledon.

A source told ESPN FC last month that Hull were closing in on a move to sign Mannion, 18, amid interest from Liverpool and Stoke.

And the Tigers have now confirmed that the keeper has signed a three-year deal with the Premier League club, with an option for an extra year, while a compensation fee is to be agreed by a tribunal.

AFC Wimbledon a 'big step closer' to their proposed relocation

AFC Wimbledon have taken a big step closer to their proposed relocation to Plough Lane after exchanging contracts for the sale of Kingsmeadow stadium to Chelsea.

The newly-promoted League One side intend to use the money received for Kingsmeadow, reported to be £2 million, to help fund a new stadium at the site in south-west London where Wimbledon played up until 1991.
