AEK Athens defeat Olympiakos in Greek Cup final

AEK Athens won the Greek Cup in front of an empty stadium on Tuesday.

Midfielder Ronald Vargas set up a goal in each half for AEK Athens to beat Olympiakos 2-1 and win the Greek Cup on Tuesday, ending a tournament marred by violence and administrative disputes.

The final was played without fans at Athens' Olympic Stadium, and followed repeated match date delays.

Gus Poyet named Real Betis manager for next two seasons

Gus Poyet has been named manager of Real Betis for the next two seasons.

Real Betis have announced that Gus Poyet will be their manager for the next two seasons, replacing Juan Merino.

Government delays Greek Cup final again amid security concerns

Risking sanctions from FIFA, Greece's government has postponed Saturday's Greek Cup final, citing security concerns.

Stavros Kontonis, a deputy minister for sport, announced the decision Friday, noting that the final between champions Olympiakos and AEK Athens would be delayed for "at least 10 days."

Fans had already been banned from the game at the 69,000-seat Olympic Stadium.

Greek Cup canceled by government after violence in semifinal

ATHENS, Greece -- Greece's government has canceled the Greek Cup a day after a semifinal was stopped because of fan violence.

The sports ministry announced the decision on Thursday following the violence in the northern city of Thessaloniki, where fans of local club PAOK threw flares onto the pitch and clashed with riot police on the field.

The game was stopped in the 90th minute as Olympiakos led 2-1.
