Charlie Wyke and Alex Gilliead scored first-half goals to give Carlisle a 2-0 win over fellow League Two play-off hopefuls Accrington.

Carlisle always held the upper hand despite an early blow when skipper Michael Raynes was stretchered off with a head injury sustained as he challenged for a corner delivered by Gillead.

The initial play was scrappy, with the early for the injury a factor, although Carlisle made the most of a 28th-minute free-kick on the left which Gilliead played short to Brandon Comley....

Sean McConville scored the winning goal as Accrington overcame their promotion rivals Bristol Rovers 1-0.

The winger cut inside in the 69th minute to fire home into the bottom corner of the net as the Reds moved up to fifth place in the league - just two points behind the Pirates with four games in hand.

It was a first half of few chances with in-form Shay McCartan having an 11th-minute opportunity for Stanley but he headed inches wide while the unmarked Rory Gaffney did the same at the other end.

Exeter fought back from a goal down to see off Accrington 2-1 at St James' Park.

Exeter made a blistering start to the game with Tom Nichols and Jordan Moore-Taylor both missing chances in the first two minutes and it was against the run of play that Accrington broke the deadlock just a minute later.

Shay McCartan benefited from Moore-Taylor's slip and ran through, rounded Bobby Olejnik and rolled the ball into an empty net.

However, Exeter hit straight back when Nichols latched on to Matt Oakley's...

Two goals from Shay McCartan and an Adam Buxton strike made it a welcome return to the Wham Stadium for Accrington Stanley as they beat Hartlepool United 3-1 in Sky Bet League Two.

After five postponed home games, Stanley were at it from the start with Matt Crooks forcing a superb save out of Trevor Carson, McCartan firing at the Pools keeper and the lively Piero Mingoia heading inches wide.

Carson kept out a Billy Kee stooping header after 22 minutes but a minute later could do nothing to stop Buxton's...

Accrington boss John Coleman is confident his side will finally be able to play at home against Portsmouth on Saturday.

The wet weather in Lancashire has meant four successive home postponements for Stanley, who have not competed at the Wham Stadium since a draw with Newport on November 14.

Extensive work to the pitch and drains as well as drier weather has left Coleman optimistic, although the fixture backlog will mean he needs to call on all his squad over the next few weeks.

The likes of Terry Gornell,...
