Ajaccio celeb Ligue 2 180520
Ligue 2 side Ajaccio beat Le Havre on penalties on Sunday to earn a spot in the Ligue 1 promotion tie.

Ajaccio have escaped dismissal from the playoffs for promotion to Ligue 1 but will be deprived of home advantage for the first leg of the final.

Olivier Pantaloni's Ligue 2 side set up a clash with top-flight Toulouse by beating Le Havre on penalties on Sunday, in an ill-tempered clash in which both teams had two players sent off.

Afterwards, Le Havre filed a complaint with the French league (LFP) claiming they should be awarded the game after Pantaloni, who had also been dismissed, reappeared pitchside...

Ligue 2 playoff between Ajaccio and Le Havre postponed after fans attack bus

The Ligue 2 playoff match between Ajaccio and Le Havre was postponed after supporters of the Corsican club attacked the visiting team's bus on Friday.

Normandy-based Le Havre beat Brest 2-0 on Tuesday and are fighting with Ajaccio for promotion to Ligue 1 -- French domestic football's top flight.

However, both clubs' respective quests are on hold after some fans, from a group of an estimated 150, threw projectiles and rocks at Le Havre's bus and blocked it from reaching the entrance to the Stade...

Ajaccio to remain in Ligue 2 following successful appeal

Ajaccio will remain in Ligue 2 after successfully appealing against a decision to relegate them on financial grounds.

The club were demoted last month by French football's financial governing body the DNCG along with Corsican rivals Bastia, who had just been relegated from Ligue 1.

Radamel Falcao's goal helps Monaco advance in Coupe de France

A goal from Radamel Falcao, centre, helped Monaco get past Ajaccio 2-1.

Radamel Falcao scored his seventh goal in the past five games as Monaco beat second-division AC Ajaccio 2-1 to reach the fourth round of the Coupe de France on Friday.

The Colombia striker made a sharp run to the near post to turn in an excellent cross from 18-year-old French winger Kylian Mbappe in the 19th minute.

The 30-year-old Falcao has netted 16 times in all competitions this season, continuing his strong return to form following a career-threatening knee injury.

Benjamin Corgnet's extra-time goal kept Thursday's game from going to penalties.

St Etienne booked their place in the last 16 of the Coupe de France on Thursday night with a dramatic extra-time win over Ligue 2 Ajaccio.

Substitute Benjamin Corgnet struck the winner in the last minute of the added period when he volleyed home from a Nolan Roux header in a crowded box.

Jean-Christophe Bahebeck had put the hosts in front in the 10th minute but Rayan Frikeche forced the extra period with an 86th minute equaliser.
