Aberdeen missed the chance to return to the top of the Scottish Premiership table after being held to a 1-1 draw by St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park on Friday night.

The home side had the better of the first half and deserved the lead given to them by Simon Lappin on 30 minutes, while David Goodwillie hit the crossbar with a header at the other end.

Lee Croft struck the post for St Johnstone after the break before Adam Rooney's stunning long-range strike earned the visitors a point.

Aberdeen saw their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership reduced to just two points, but were in the end thankful for Ryan Jack's late leveller to avoid defeat against a spirited Dundee.

The Dons had looked comfortable after David Goodwillie's early strike put them in front, but goals from Gary Irvine and Greg Stewart had Dundee in front by half-time. Gary Harkins added a third soon after the interval to put daylight between the sides.

Aberdeen were handed a late lifeline through a Jonny Hayes...

Aberdeen increased their lead over Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership to four points with a 2-0 win over St Mirren in blustery Paisley.

Dons forward Niall McGinn, the former Hoops player who caused a stir with the photograph of him sitting among Celtic fans during Monday night's 2-0 win at Kilmarnock which was posted on social media, opened the scoring in the 31st minute - although it looked like it was an intended cross which landed up behind Buddies keeper Mark Ridgers.

Adam Rooney's double moved Aberdeen four points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership as they beat Motherwell 2-0 at Fir Park.

Rooney scored in each half to secure Aberdeen's seventh consecutive league win and put more pressure on Celtic ahead of the champions' trip to Kilmarnock on Monday night.

The Irishman opened the scoring in the 36th minute after some poor defensive work from Motherwell, who did not get going as an attacking force until the final quarter.

Even then they could not seriously...

In-form Aberdeen defeated St Johnstone 2-0 at Pittodrie to leapfrog Celtic and move to the top of the Scottish Premiership

The Dons dictated the play but only had David Goodwillie's spectacular goal to show for their dominance until substitute Cammy Smith finally made the points safe in stoppage time.

The victory, their sixth in a row and eighth from their last nine matches, was enough to move Derek McInnes' men a point clear of the Hoops, whose fixture at Partick was postponed due to a waterlogged...
