CSL: Guangzhou Evergrande drop more points as Shanghai SIPG win

With only five matches remaining in the CSL, can Shanghai SIPG close in on Guangzhou's six-point lead?

Guangzhou Evergrande's lead at the top of the Chinese Super League was reduced again on Friday evening as Luiz Felipe Scolari's side were held to a 2-2 draw by Chongqing Lifan as Shanghai SIPG won again.

Evergrande now lead by four points with four games to play after SIPG handed Beijing Guoan a 1-0 defeat at Workers' Stadium in the capital thanks to a solitary goal from former Chelsea star Oscar.

SIPG have now reduced the deficit between themselves and Evergrande by four points over the last two games to leave Scolari and his team looking nervously over their shoulder ahead of the final quartet of games.

"Now our lead in the Chinese Super League rankings is not as big as before," said Scolari, who is attempting to claim the club's seventh league title in a row. "But our determination to win the title is even stronger.

"Of course, we will encounter some strong teams on our way to the title but we have never been as confident as we are now. We won't underestimate any opponent.

Scolari
Luiz Felipe Scolari's side dropped points again on Friday.

"I'm quite satisfied with today's performance. We showed great attitude towards the game while our opponent was very competitive and you can see that the Chinese Super League is not only about Evergrande, but lots of other good teams."

Jung Woo-young gave Chongqing the lead 16 minutes into the game before a Gao Lin double put Scolari's team in front by the 60th minute, only for Fernandinho to net 11 minutes from time as the sides shared the points.

The results move Evergrande on to 58 points from 26 games, with SIPG four adrift after Oscar's 31st minute goal gave Andre Villas-Boas' team their win over a Beijing side that has slipped out of contention for a top-three finish and a place in next season's Asian Champions League.
