Guangzhou Evergrande drop five points behind Shanghai SIPG after loss

Fabio Cannavaro is hoping his Guangzhou Evergrande side will come back from the Chinese Super League's two-month World Cup break mentally refreshed after the seven-time champions dropped further off the pace with a 2-0 loss against Beijing Renhe on Sunday.

Benjamin Moukandjo and Augusto Fernandez scored for the newly promoted side as Evergrande dropped five points behind leaders Shanghai SIPG, who defeated Jiangsu Suning 2-0 to return to the summit ahead of the finals in Russia next month.

Manuel Pellegrini leaves Hebei China Fortune after win amid West Ham links

Former Hebei China Fortune coach Manuel Pellegrini
Manuel Pellegrini has left Hebei China Fortune amid links to a move to West Ham United.

Manuel Pellegrini has left Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune as the former Manchester City manager moved a step closer to replacing David Moyes at West Ham United.

Hebei made the announcement on their social media channels on Saturday evening, once Pellegrini led the club to a 2-1 win over Chongqing Lifan before the league takes a two-month break for the World Cup.

Pellegrini joined Hebei in August 2016 having led Manchester City to the Premier League title two years before, and guided...

Late Wu Xinghan winner helps Shandong Luneng go top of table

Wu Xinghan's 93rd-minute winner moved Shandong Luneng to the top of the Chinese Super League standings as Li Xiaopeng's side handed Tianjin Teda a last-gasp 2-1 defeat on Friday.

The win moves Shandong three points clear of Shanghai SIPG, who play fourth-placed Jiangsu Suning on Sunday evening in the final round of matches before the league takes a two-month break for the summer's World Cup finals.

But despite the win -- Shandong's seventh from 11 league games so far this season -- Li was far from...

Jiangsu Suning close gap on CSL leaders Shanghai SIPG with win over Dalian Yifang

Cosmin Olaroiu paid tribute to his players as Jiangsu Suning moved to within a point of the summit of the Chinese Super League on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Dalian Yifang.

Huang Zichang scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half as Jiangsu closed the gap on leaders Shanghai SIPG with their fifth win in seven games since Olaroiu took over as head coach from Fabio Capello.

But, rather than take the acclaim for turning the team around after a disappointing 2017 campaign, the Romanian...

Shanghai SIPG stay top of Chinese Super League despite surprise draw

Shanghai SIPG retained their position at the top of the Chinese Super League standings despite being held to a 1-1 draw by bottom side Guizhou Zhicheng, after Shandong Luneng and Guangzhou Evergrande were also held to draws on Saturday.

Shandong, who started the day in second place level with SIPG, shared the spoils with Tianjian Quanjian in a 1-1 draw while defending champions Guangzhou drew 2-2 with Hebei China Fortune to remain in fourth place, two points adrift of the lead duo.
