Chelsea rout Arsenal to win FA Youth Cup again

LONDON -- Chelsea's under-18s secured their fifth-straight FA Youth Cup title by routing Arsenal 4-0 on Monday for a 7-1 aggregate victory in the two-legged final.

Chelsea led 3-1 from Friday's first leg at Stamford Bridge and the result was never in doubt after Billy Gilmour scored with a well-taken volley 10 minutes in at the Emirates.

The floodgates then opened after the break as the excellent Callum Hudson-Odoi scored two goals and set up another for substitute Tino Anjorin to bolster the scoreline.

The comprehensive win extended Chelsea's recent dominance in this competition as they became the first team since Manchester United's legendary Busby Babes to win it five times in a row.

It also underlined Hudson-Odoi's status as one of Chelsea's top prospects, with the 17-year-old forward a constant threat to the Arsenal defence.

Chelsea could have won this one by an even bigger margin if not for a couple of good saves by goalkeeper Joao Virginia in the first half, as the Blues dominated throughout with a performance that was both more organised and clinical than their opponents'.

Gilmour's opener came after a cross from Juan Castillo was headed out straight into his path and he calmly downed the ball with his chest and hammered home a low right-foot volley inside the left post.

Hudson-Odoi then ended any hopes of a comeback as he doubled the lead on the night by finishing off a quick counterattack 10 minutes after the restart. Daishawn Redan's cross found its way to Hudson-Odoi who patiently waited for the right time to slot his effort past Virginia.

That ended Arsenal's resistance for good and they were quickly caught on another counter as Hudson-Odoi raced clear down the right flank before squaring for Anjorin. He added his second goal with another clinical finish, holding off two defenders before slotting a low shot inside the far post.

Arsenal's Bukayo Saka thought he had scored a late consolation goal but he was well offside.

Arsenal have not won the title since 2009, with Jack Wilshere was part of the team.
