Chelsea suffered 'difficult night' in heavy Watford defeat - N'Golo Kante

N'Golo Kante has said it "hurts" not to have put an end to Chelsea's recent slide after they suffered a "difficult evening" in a 4-1 loss to Watford at Vicarage Road.

The Premier League champions have conceded seven goals in two matches against Bournemouth and Watford and are in a battle for a top-four place amid serious doubt over coach Antonio Conte's future.

"It's a difficult evening," Kante told SFR Sport. "Our start to the game wasn't what we had hoped for.

"We had wanted to bounce back after the defeat to Bournemouth, and to leave here with a defeat, 4-1, it hurts.

"We're all disappointed with the results right now. But that's the way it is -- we can't change that.

"What we have to do is keep training and prepare for the next game against West Brom at home, and we hope to get back to winning ways."

Deadline day signing Olivier Giroud came on to make his Chelsea debut in the 64th minute, and Kante backed his French compatriot to make an impact at Stamford Bridge.

"Olivier knows the league, we know what he has done at Arsenal, he's used to scoring goals," he said.

"I hope he'll continue scoring goals for us and it will go well."
