Eden Hazard: Chelsea 'deserved' late winner to beat Atletico Madrid

Eden Hazard said Chelsea's late win was "deserved" as they prevailed 2-1 away to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Despite falling behind, Chelsea found an equaliser through Alvaro Morata before Michy Batshuayi delivered the stoppage-time winner.

"We are very happy. It was a tough game against one of the biggest teams in Europe. We deserved to win the game," Hazard told BT Sport after the final whistle.

"We are playing very well. We have quality in the team and we want to win every game. It was not easy today but we did it.

"Atletico Madrid defend well and both teams are strong at blocking the attackers.

It was another famous goal for Batshuayi, whose goal against West Brom in May sealed the Premier League title for Chelsea.

"He scores every time he gets on the pitch," Hazard said of his teammate. "He is a top scorer so I am very happy for him. Alvaro Morata too."

Chelsea became the first opposing team to win a game at Atletico's new Metropolitano Stadium, and they also are the first-ever English club to win away to Atletico in European competition, after six defeats and five draws.

"It is a very important win for us. It was a big test," said Morata. "Atletico Madrid were in the Champions League final a few years ago and now we can go home relaxed and put this mentality into the Premier League."

As for his goal, Morata added: "It is always a good feeling to score the first goal in a new stadium. I am very happy.

"It is great to play with a player like Eden Hazard. He is one of the best in the world and I am very lucky to play with him.

"I am happy with my start but the most important thing is the team and winning the game."
