Chinese FA hopes Chelsea 'have learnt good lesson' over Kenedy incident

The Chinese Football Association (CFA) has released a statement saying it hopes all at Chelsea have learnt a lesson from the incident which saw Kenedy sent home.

The 21-year-old was sent back to England in disgrace after two offensive posts on his Instagram account -- at least one of which was racially insensitive -- caused outrage in China.

"We have taken notice of the inappropriate behaviours involving Mr Robert Kenedy, the strong reaction of the fans as well as the apologies made by Mr Kenedy himself and Chelsea Football Club," a CFA spokeswoman said, according to the Daily Telegraph. "We insist that football helps bring peoples together, not apart, build bridges and friendship, not walls and hatred.

"A professional player serves as a role model of the society and the world at large. We hope the club and the players have learnt a good lesson from the incident."

Upon Kenedy's arrival back to England, the Football Association contacted Chelsea to seek the player's "observations" and will take these into account before deciding whether to charge him or not.

The winger has made 22 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions since arriving in 2015 from Fluminense in a transfer worth a reported £6.3 million.
