Chelsea captain John Terry wants to continue playing for two more years

John Terry has told SFR Sport he wants to continue playing for "a couple more years" and is motivated by a desire to bring the Premier League trophy back to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea came from a goal down to beat Tottenham 2-1 on Saturday and return to the top of the table, but Terry was not involved as he recovers from a muscle injury picked up in training last week.

The 35-year-old has made just two appearances since straining ankle ligaments against Swansea in September, and Chelsea's spectacular upturn in form since Antonio Conte's switch to a 3-4-3 system has forced the captain to wait for another chance.

Terry's contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season, but he has no desire to retire from playing yet.

"I still want to play for a couple more years -- whether that is here at Chelsea or somewhere abroad, I don't know," Terry said. "It's an option.

"I am contracted to Chelsea for this season and then will see after that. I'm doing my coaching badges. I don't know if I want to be a coach, but I want to do my badges and pass."

Chelsea have re-established themselves as genuine title contenders under Conte and Terry said: "When I see other teams win it, it makes me feel angry, it makes me feel sick, you feel like you have let everyone down.

"I am where I am today because of that hunger. There were better players when I was younger, but I wanted it more.

"It's still there today, at the age of 35. You miss that feeling of being the champion, being the best. Nothing can ever replace that.

"This is why I still want to carry on playing, because that hunger is still there to be the best to win trophies for my football club."

Terry's prolonged absence from the Chelsea starting XI due to injuries and the team's form has prompted speculation that he may not be offered a new contract, but the 35-year-old said he had no problem with Conte's treatment of him.

"It helps when you have a manager who is very honest," he said. "He used to be a player, so he knows.

"The team are playing so well, you know that you're not going to get back in the team. If I'm playing, fantastic. If I'm not, my attitude has never been one to sulk.

"In the nicest way I hope I don't get back in, because it means we are carrying on winning matches."
