Chelsea captain John Terry rues 'small setback' ahead of Arsenal

John Terry says he "can't even put into words" how disappointed he is to miss Chelsea's clash with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium after confirming that he suffered a "small setback" in his recovery from an ankle injury this week.

As recently as Tuesday there was optimism at Chelsea that Terry, who was ruled out of action for approximately 10 days after straining ankle ligaments against Swansea City earlier this month, would be fit in time to face the Gunners but Antonio Conte confirmed on Friday that he would miss out.

On Saturday morning Terry posted a video of himself riding an exercise bike at Cobham alongside the message: "I can't even put into words how much being injured and missing today's game hurts. I had a small setback during the week but I'm hoping to be back soon. Also the bike is horrible."

The 35-year-old left the Liberty Stadium on crutches and missed Chelsea's 2-1 Premier League defeat at home to Liverpool as well as Tuesday's 4-2 EFL Cup third round win over Leicester City as he worked at Cobham to regain his fitness.

Terry's next opportunity to return will be next weekend when Chelsea travel to the KCOM Stadium to take on Hull City. In his absence, David Luiz and Gary Cahill are expected to continue in the centre of the Blues' defence against Arsenal.
