David Luiz: Chelsea will pay for any lapse in concentration this season

David Luiz has warned his Chelsea teammates that they will pay for every mistake they make in the Premier League this season after Friday's 2-1 defeat against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

An unmarked Dejan Lovren converted Philippe Coutinho's cross to open the scoring and Jordan Henderson curled into the top corner from 30 yards to give Liverpool a lead they never relinquished, though Diego Costa's fifth Premier League goal of the season set up a tense finale.

After the match, Blues head coach Antonio Conte said his players must "feel the danger in every single moment of the game" to avoid repeating last season's capitulation, and Luiz -- who made his first Chelsea appearance since returning from Paris Saint-Germain -- agrees.

"Liverpool controlled the game in the first half with a lot of possession, changing position," he told Chelsea TV. "Their second goal was amazing, the first one was a quick free kick and we must pay attention to this sort of thing because they started better than us.

"Normally you have a line to defend the free kick but they played short and they played quickly, and we didn't organise the line quickly so that is why they had two or three free players at the back and they scored a goal.

"This is the Premier League. When you make a mistake and don't pay attention, particularly from the free kick, you pay. The second half we controlled the game, almost scored a second goal to draw and of course it is not a good night for us but we'll keep fighting for the next games."

Luiz is expected to keep his place in the Chelsea defence when Conte's men bid to bounce back in the EFL Cup third round against Leicester City on Tuesday night as captain John Terry remains sidelined with strained ankle ligaments, though he did return to light training on Monday.
