Pedro Rodriguez does not regret Chelsea transfer from Barcelona

Pedro Rodriguez has said he has no regrets about leaving Barcelona to join Chelsea, despite enduring a disappointing first season in English football.

Chelsea moved quickly to sign Pedro ahead of Manchester United in a £21.1 million deal last summer after the Spain international became disillusioned with a lack of regular first-team opportunities at Camp Nou, having fallen below marquee signings Neymar and Luis Suarez as well as Lionel Messi in the pecking order.

Pedro went on to start 24 of Chelsea's 38 Premier League matches in a disastrous season that saw the Blues sack title-winning manager Jose Mourinho and eventually finish 10th, well outside the Champions League and Europa League qualification places.

Barcelona, in contrast, retained their La Liga title after edging out rivals Real Madrid on the final day of the season, but Pedro is adamant that he made the right decision in swapping the club where he won 13 major trophies in eight years for Stamford Bridge.

"I am really happy here and have no regrets about the decision I made to join Chelsea," Pedro told the Evening Standard.

"I am already looking forward to next season in terms of what we can achieve and putting the club back where it should be. Of course when you move away from your city there are certain things you will miss but, generally speaking, I am settled in this country.

"Is the best still to come from me? Absolutely. I always keep faith in myself and my abilities. I'm sure next season will be a great one for me and the club. I'm really looking forward to fighting for the Premier League, which will be a dream for me."

Pedro was named in Vicente del Bosque's preliminary 25-man Spain squad for Euro 2016 on Tuesday along with Chelsea teammates Cesc Fabregas and Cesar Azpilicueta, but striker Diego Costa was overlooked due to concerns about a hamstring injury that curtailed his Premier League campaign.
