John Terry to be told Chelsea fate before final game of season

Chelsea captain John Terry will receive confirmation from club officials of whether he has played his final match for his one and only club before the Blues' final match of the season.

Chelsea supporters at Anfield on Wednesday held aloft banners and chanted in protest at the club's treatment of Terry, who is suspended for the remainder of the Premier League season after being shown his second red card of the campaign against Sunderland on Saturday.

The 35-year-old defender's contract expires at the end of the season and he revealed in January there would be "no fairytale ending" for him at Stamford Bridge, having been informed by the club that no offer of an extension was forthcoming.

Despite Chelsea's insistence that "channels of dialogue" would remain open over Terry's future, there has been no significant move to clarify the situation in recent months and fan anger has grown at the club's approach to dealing with their captain, who has made 703 first-team appearances and won 14 major trophies for the Blues.

The Times reports that Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia and technical director Michael Emenalo met with Terry on Wednesday to resolve the situation, with a formal announcement to follow ahead of Sunday's final-day clash with champions Leicester City at Stamford Bridge -- the last chance for the club and supporters to pay tribute to their captain if he is to depart this summer. The Guardian, meanwhile, reports that Terry will be told on Thursday that he will not be retained by the club he has been at since he was 14 years old.

"Let's wait to see what happens in the upcoming days on this issue," Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink told reporters of Terry's future after Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Liverpool. "Of course, John is in contact every day with us and he has made such a long career that the fans appreciate him highly.

"We will see regarding his near future, let's wait a bit. Hopefully both are wise parties and let's hope for the best. It is difficult to see which direction it is going."

Chelsea have made plans to pay tribute to Terry at their Player of the Year dinner on Friday, and sources have confirmed to ESPN FC that the he has been granted free use of the Stamford Bridge pitch and changing rooms for a private party on Monday.
