Ex-Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho hails John Terry partnership

Former Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho has said that John Terry was the player he had the best understanding with on the pitch during his career.

Carvalho, 37, won eight major trophies playing alongside Terry at Chelsea from 2004 to 2010. The Portuguese centre-back, who started out at Porto and is still playing with Monaco, told France Football magazine that Terry was a joy to play with.

"With him, everything was natural," Carvalho said. "We didn't need to talk during matches. Each of us knew how the other was going to react in the face of difficulties created by the opponent. They're things that you feel and are difficult to explain.

"It was a pleasure to play so many years at Chelsea and to form a pair with him. I learned a lot by his side.

"Terry was the player I had the best understanding with during my career. He was one of the best centre-backs in the world."
