Chelsea captain John Terry has played his last game of the season -- and possibly his last game ever for the club -- after being sent off against Sunderland on Saturday.
Terry, 35, received two yellow cards in his team's 3-2 defeat at the Stadium of Light; the first in the 88th minute and the second -- in the 94th minute -- for a late lunge on Wahbi Khazri.
Ordinarily a red card would result in an immediate one-match suspension, but FA rules state that for each subsequent red card in a season, an additional one-match suspension must be served.
Since Terry also received a red card in Chelsea's game against West Bromwich Albion in August he will miss both of Chelsea's remaining games of the season: against Liverpool and champions Leicester.
With Terry out of contract in the summer and rumours rife that this is to be his final season at Chelsea, the red card could well be his final action in the Premier League.
