Chelsea striker Radamel Falcao wants chance to prove worth

Radamel Falcao hopes to be given the opportunity to impress at Chelsea in the second half of the season.

Jose Mourinho made clear his desire to sign Falcao in the summer but, after securing his services on a season-long loan from Monaco, the Colombia international scored just one goal in nine Premier League appearances before the manager's dismissal.

Guus Hiddink, who has taken charge until the end of the season, did not include Falcao in the squad for Saturday's 2-2 draw with Watford as he feels he lacks match fitness but he could get a chance against former club Manchester United with fellow striker Diego Costa suspended.

Falcao, who has not played since the 3-1 loss to Liverpool on Oct. 31 after picking up an injury, told the Colombian edition of Hola! magazine: "The team's start has not been the best and I haven't been allowed to have the opportunities I would have liked.

"But I am very grateful, happy and with high expectations of being able to succeed and have opportunities in the second half of the season."

The 29-year-old, who has been linked with a January return to Monaco, is determined to recover his form ahead of an important year for his national team as well as well as his club side.

"In 2016 I hope to be with the Colombia team in the Copa America and the Olympics and to have the results that we all want to qualify for the World Cup," he said. "With my club, [I want] to have success and to be able to play. That is what I want the most now."
