Filipe Luis: Jose Mourinho's interviews are 'damaging' to Chelsea players

Former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis says Jose Mourinho's comments to the media can be "damaging" to players on his team.

Mourinho has not hesitated to call out underperforming players during Chelsea's dismal start to the season, in which they have already lost more games in a campaign after winning the Premier League than any previous defending champions.

Eden Hazard has been of particular focus for Mourinho, who called on the Belgian international to improve his defensive workrate.

But Luis, who moved to Atletico Madrid after a season at Stamford Bridge, told Yahoo! the manager's outspoken attitude may do more harm than good.

"He has his way of talking to the press, especially when the team loses, which can sometimes be damaging to certain players. Some players benefit from criticism but for others they don't."

Mourinho has also gotten into trouble with officials and has been fined twice for his postgame comments.

And Luis added: "Sometimes he's right and sometimes he's not. Sometimes people think what he says is absurd and sometimes they agree with him. It's the way he is and the way he works -- I see it as normal."

Luis made just 15 appearances under Mourinho before moving to Atletico in the summer on a four-year contract. But he said he looks back fondly at his time at Stamford Bridge, when the Blues won the league as well as the Capital One Cup.

"I consider my time with Chelsea a personal triumph," he said. "In one year I won two titles -- one being the Premier League. I have a trophy at home that not many people have and in possibly the most competitive league in the world."
