Jose Mourinho fails in FA appeal over remarks after Southampton loss

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has failed in his appeal against a suspended stadium ban, the Football Association has announced.

Mourinho was given the suspended ban along with a £50,000 fine for comments about the referee after his side's 3-1 defeat to Southampton on Oct. 3.

The FA published its reasons for the decision on its official website, saying it rejected Mourinho's argument that his criticisms had been directed at the media rather than the referee.

The 52-year-old Portuguese -- banned from Stoke's Britannia Stadium on Saturday for a separate offence -- was angry referee Robert Madley did not award a penalty when Radamel Falcao was instead booked for diving in a 3-1 loss to Saints.

Mourinho afterwards said officials were "afraid" to give Chelsea decisions and added: "Be honest with us and give us what you have to give, and it's a big penalty."

An FA statement read: "An Appeal Board has dismissed the appeal from Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in relation to a decision made by an Independent Regulatory Commission.

"At the original commission hearing, Mr Mourinho was given a suspended one-match stadium ban and fined £50,000 after he admitted a breach of FA Rules in relation to post-match media comments made following the game against Southampton on Saturday Oct. 3 2015.

"The Appeal Board has upheld the original sanction and therefore it remains that Mr Mourinho's suspended stadium ban will be immediately invoked should he be found by an Independent Regulatory Commission to have committed a further breach of FA Rule E3 for any comment or statement to or through the media before Oct. 13 2016."

The ban which prevents Mourinho attending Saturday's Premier League game at Stoke was imposed following his half-time dismissal at West Ham last month. Only if Chelsea appeal against that penalty will Mourinho be permitted to enter the Britannia Stadium or surrounding area on matchday.

Meanwhile, Mourinho's agent, Jorge Mendes, has told the BBC there is "no chance" the manager will part ways with Chelsea.

With the club currently in 15th place in the Premier League, sources had said at the weekend that Mourinho had two games to save his job.

However, Mendes said: "He doesn't need to prove anything to anybody. He knows what to do. Many people are saying these things but there is no chance [he will leave]. He will solve the problem. He is the best."

Mourinho thanked the fans for the audible support after Wednesday's Champions League victory over Dynamo Kiev, and Mendes said that their backing, plus the Portuguese's prolific past success, means Chelsea's poor start is merely a bump in the road.

"At FC Porto he won the Europa League, the league, the Champions League. He won everything," Mendes said. "After that, in Chelsea he was amazing. After 50 years he won the league and everyone was very happy with him.

"At Inter Milan, nobody expected Inter could win the Champions League -- no way. Even the quarterfinals seemed quite impossible.

"At Real Madrid against the best team in the world he still won the league. He is special.

"The reaction from the supporters tells you everything. They like him.

"Everyone, players, coaches, you have good moments and bad moments. It is impossible to find someone like him to solve the problem."
