Jose Mourinho stunned by possibility of 3-game ban for Cesc Fabregas

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was shocked to hear that midfielder Cesc Fabregas is likely to receive a three-game ban for the red card he received for kicking a ball at West Bromwich Albion's Chris Brunt.

"Three-game ban for this?" Mourinho asked in a news conference after his team's 3-0 loss at the Hawthorns. "Jesus Christ. That's harsh to get three games for this."

Fabregas had aimed the ball at Brunt after a melee in the West Brom penalty area had seen striker Diego Costa being booked for grappling with Baggies defender Gareth McAuley.

Mourinho suggested Chelsea were unlikely to appeal any ban "because we lose every time."

"We have a great record with appealing," he continued sarcastically.

Asked if he planned to rebuke Fabregas for his actions, Mourinho said: "I didn't speak with him yet but he doesn't need to explain.

"I would like to see it again, what is this for a sending off? Where is the danger of the situation? Where the aggression in the situation to get a red card in a friendly game almost.

Mourinho then suggested referee Mike Jones had mishandled the situation.

"For me a top referee, a big personality in control of the game goes there has two or three words and it is done," he said. "It is a bizarre red card."
