Gary Cahill hails 'winning mentality' of Chelsea after Bolton League Cup win

Gary Cahill has hailed the winning mentality of Jose Mourinho's Chelsea squad after they saw off Bolton in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday.

Cahill started in a strong Chelsea lineup that beat his former club 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, and the defender believes the momentum built up by the Blues' strong start to the season is vital to their hopes of success.

"It's great to have a winning mentality," the 28-year-old told the club's official website. "If you have a couple of sticky results, it puts the pressure on going into games but at the moment we're unbeaten, we're going well and we should have confidence, especially playing in front of our own fans at Stamford Bridge.

"We had a lot of chances [against Bolton], mainly created by good individual play. Their goalkeeper pulled off a fantastic save from [Andre] Schurrle's free kick, and another one from [Loic] Remy.

"Schurrle created a lot for himself, I thought he played well, cutting inside and firing shots at goal. Sometimes when you play at home against a team who aren't in the Premier League, you have more to lose than win.

"People expect you to win the game and it's not that easy. There have already been a few shocks and thankfully we weren't one of them."

Cahill will face another of his former teams on Saturday, as Aston Villa come to Stamford Bridge looking to bounce back from their 3-0 defeat against Arsenal last weekend.

"I had a great time at Villa, more than anything with the youth team," added Cahill. "I owe a lot to them, they brought me through and I had a great time, so I'm looking forward to it.

"They've had a great start to the season, apart from their last result, so it's going to be another tough test for us."
