Ramires handed four-match suspension

Chelsea midfielder Ramires will be banned for four games after accepting a charge of violent conduct following an off-the-ball incident during the 2-1 loss to Sunderland on Saturday.

The Brazil international struck Black Cats midfielder Sebastian Larsson with a flailing arm during the game at Stamford Bridge, but originally avoided punishment as the incident was not seen by match officials.

However, after being charged by the Football Association on Wednesday, Ramires has accepted he was in the wrong and will now face a domestic suspension, which also takes into account his sending off against Aston Villa last month.

“Chelsea midfielder Ramires has accepted a charge of violent conduct following an off-the-ball incident that was not seen by the match officials but caught on video,” an official FA statement released on Thursday read.

“The incident occurred during Chelsea’s Premier League fixture against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge on Saturday April 19.

“Ramires receives a four match ban which will start with immediate effect.

“The ban includes three games for this offence plus an additional game for his sending off at Villa Park last month.”

Ramires will miss Chelsea’s final three Premier League games of the season -- against Liverpool, Norwich and Cardiff -- while he will also miss the first league game of the next campaign. The midfielder remains available for his side's Champions League semifinal second leg against Atletico Madrid as well as the final, should they get there.

Blues manager Jose Mourinho and his assistant Rui Faria were also charged by the FA for their actions during the loss to Sunderland.

Mourinho offered a sarcastic appraisal of the match officials after the game, while Faria was dismissed from the dugout for angrily confronting the referee and his assistants.
