Jose Mourinho targets Chelsea stability

Jose Mourinho is confident of winning trophies during his second spell as Chelsea boss but he is also keen to bring managerial stability to the club.

• Lythell: Mourinho aiming to turn dreams into reality

Since his departure in 2007, seven managers have occupied the Stamford Bridge dugout on a permanent or interim basis but having coached Inter Milan and Real Madrid, Mourinho believes he is returning to the Premier League ready to commit himself to a long-term project.

"Of course, it is about winning trophies," Mourinho said. "My DNA didn’t change, my nature didn’t change. I am not the kind of person to be at the same club for three or four years without winning a trophy.

"In this case, I don’t need the club to say ‘we are not happy with you, goodbye’. I will be the first one to say: ‘I gave everything I could but I didn’t succeed, so let’s both go and try a different thing’.

"My feeling is the trophies will arrive naturally without obsession, they will arrive naturally, based on the stability because there is big empathy between the different sectors at this club."

Mourinho realises the squad he has inherited at Chelsea means he will have to change his playing style, but having adjusted his ambitions, this is something he is prepared for.

"You see the profile of player we have: Oscar, Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Kevin de Bruyne, Andre Schurrle. We can’t play physical football with these people. I want to attack and try to be dominant," he said. "I also want to show people I am stable, but you can be stable and also emotional. Chelsea need some stability. In this moment, the club is ready for that and I am ready for that.

"When I was here the first time, I still had the passion of going around and trying to win other championships and trying to make myself better by going to other football countries, but now, I don’t see myself in Spain coaching another club and I don’t see myself coaching another club in Italy other than Inter.

"I don’t see myself in other Leagues because I have a connection with Chelsea. I have quite a long contract here and I hope at the end of it we both want to keep together."

Meanwhile, Mourinho mischievously laughed off David Moyes' suggestion that Manchester United were handed a tough start to the season by the fixtures computer to ensure they do not run away with the Premier League title once again.

"Was it a computer, or old fashioned with hot balls and cold balls?" he added. "If it’s a computer, unless the computer has a virus, I don’t know."
