Lukaku confirms Chelsea stay

Romelu Lukaku has confirmed that he will remain a Chelsea player next season following talks with Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku impressed during his season-long loan at West Brom.
Romelu Lukaku has made 21 appearances for Belgium

The Belgium international striker, 20, spent last season on loan at West Brom where he made a big impression, scoring 17 goals.

There was some doubt about whether he would be allowed to leave on loan again in order to gain more experience or whether Mourinho would want to utilise him as a first-team player at Stamford Bridge.

But Lukaku looks to have put an end to that speculation, saying: "I’ll play for Chelsea next season. I had a chat with Jose and he’ll put me in his squad."

Lukaku has also revealed an ambition to outdo former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, a player he is often compared to because of their similar physically imposing statures and ability to score important goals.

Drogba won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and a Champions League in his eight years with the club but Lukaku is confident of topping that impressive haul.

He said: "People compared me to Drogba. He’s my idol, we’ve a similar style. But I hope to do even better than him and win more trophies."
