On-loan midfielder Michael Essien has said he expects to return to Chelsea from Real Madrid - and believes he will be going back to a club that has won a trophy this season.
The midfielder’s move to Spain has reunited him with former Blues boss Jose Mourinho – and with Mourinho expected to return to Stamford Bridge this summer, the two could be working together yet again.
“I have a contract at Chelsea and at present I am only on loan here, so nothing has changed,” Essien said.
“They [Chelsea] can still win trophies in the cups this season, so people shouldn’t write them off yet.
“I have followed Chelsea all season and although it hasn’t been as planned at the start of the season, I think it’s down to the fact that it is a transitional season.”
