Celtic, Rangers to play Sydney Super Cup in November

Celtic and Rangers will contest the first Old Firm Derby played outside Scotland having been invited to play in the inaugural Sydney Super Cup.

The tournament, which will also feature Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers, will take place in late November when the Scottish Premiership and the A-League Men seasons break for the World Cup in Qatar, the Sydney Morning Herald has reported.

Ange Postecoglou, who was appointed Celtic boss in June, said he was looking forward to a special homecoming.

"I haven't been home for almost three years by the time this comes around so I'm super excited," Postecoglou told the Celtic website on Tuesday.

"The club has obviously been down there a couple of times before and I know just how passionate the Celtic fans are about the football club, so we're looking forward to it.

"It's a homecoming in many respects. That's where my roots are, that's where I grew up and I know that since I've been in this position at Celtic, people have been following my journey, whether they know me or not, and I'll have a great sense of pride going back to Australia as manager of Celtic."

Postecoglou said he was certain the Hoops would attract a big crowd, and that his presence would add to the spectacle for the club's Australian fans.

"There's no doubt it will be special," he said. "I know how big this football club is back home and for me to go back as the manager of it, it will be emotional.

"There's a lot of guys who I grew up with or shared a dressing room with who are die-hard Celtic supporters and they are going to see their mate bringing their team Down Under.

"For the whole football community that I grew up in, they will all take great pride out of somebody who came through their ranks bringing home such a massive football club."
