Celta Vigo's Giuseppe Rossi won't quit after new injury setback - agent

Giuseppe Rossi's agent, Andrea Pastorello, has dismissed suggestions that the forward could retire after his latest knee injury setback.

On Monday, Celta Vigo confirmed that Rossi will be out for at least six months after suffering a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee against Eibar on Sunday.

The American-born Italy international was substituted in the 35th minute of Celta's 2-0 loss after falling awkwardly.

Rossi has suffered three serious injuries -- all to his right knee -- in previous years.

But Pastorello has rejected suggestions that the 30-year-old could quit, saying he was "a fighter" and would be back in action soon.

"The tear has been confirmed and we start over again with an operation and the usual procedure which we know all too well now," he told Radio Blu.

"Giuseppe was in great shape and he hadn't had problems for two years, and we didn't expect this.

"But he is motivated and has the usual desire to fight to get back onto the field.

"There has been fortune in his misfortune in that he has injured his [left] knee which was still healthy, and that means his recovery time will be quicker.

"He's a fighter, and he has never given up -- and he's certainly not going to do that now."

Rossi's contract with Celta Vigo expires at the end of the season, and his future beyond then remains uncertain.

The forward has been linked with a move back to Serie A, and Pastorello said a return to his former club Fiorentina was a possibility.

"Last time I saw him, he told me he would love to go back to Florence, but regardless of whether he does they are a club he will always have a place for in his heart," the agent added.

Meanwhile, Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri wished the forward well at the conclusion of a news conference ahead of his side's Champions League clash with Barcelona.

"I want to finish off by wishing Giuseppe Rossi all the very best of luck," Allegri said. "I really hope to see him back in action soon.

"I think this is already his fourth serious knee injury, and I hope he comes back as soon as possible."
