Mackay backs Solskjaer appointment

Malky Mackay has backed the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as his successor as Cardiff boss, but warned the Norwegian that managing in the Premier League is a "culture shock''.

Mackay was controversially sacked by the Bluebirds last month following a long-standing dispute with club owner Vincent Tan. Former Manchester United striker Solskjaer's first league match in charge ended in a 2-0 home defeat to fellow strugglers West Ham on Saturday, having left Norwegian side Molde to join Cardiff.

"I think it's a great job for him, coming from Norwegian football into the Premier League and into the club that has got the structure it has,'' Mackay said on Match of the Day. "There's a lot of good staff that work at that football club.

"He's got a decent training ground, 30,000 people (who) want to come to the games every week and a team that are absolutely competitive and going to have a chance of staying up.

"I think he's a decent appointment because he's done well. He's been in the Premier League and he's done well in Norway.''

But he added: "It's going to be different and there's a culture shock to it as well.''
