Kevin Theophile-Catherine joins Cardiff

Cardiff have signed defender Kevin Theophile-Catherine from Rennes, Bluebirds manager Malky Mackay has confirmed.

Kevin Theophile-Catherine is a former France Under-21 international.

Theophile-Catherine, 23, was in attendance at the Cardiff City Stadium for Saturday’s 0-0 Premier League draw with Everton.

The former France Under-21 international has joined the club for a fee believed to be in the region of £2 million on a four-year deal.

"We have signed Kevin Theophile-Catherine from Rennes today [Saturday],” Mackay said. "He is a good defender, he is someone we have tracked over the last year in France. He is someone who has pace, is aggressive and has good experience in the French top division, so he is someone we feel will be a good addition to our squad."

The transfer means Cardiff have now spent over £30 million this summer following the acquisitions of Gary Medel, Steven Caulker, Andreas Cornelius, John Brayford, Simon Moore and Maximiliano Amondarain.

However, despite having made seven signings, Mackay is still hoping to add to his squad before the end of the transfer window.

“We're still trying. If there's something else that comes up over the next couple of days we'll work hard to try and do something,” he said. "But like anything there's competition and the people we bring in have got to add [quality] to the squad."
