Swansea manager Garry Monk said he will appeal against centre-back Federico Fernandez's dismissal in injury time of the Swans' 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday. The Argentinian faces a three-match ban after he was shown a straight red card for an injury-time challenge on Philippe Coutinho, but Monk hopes referee Keith Stroud will accept he was wrong. "If anything, the Liverpool player's foot is higher than ours," Monk said in his news conference. "Keith is a good referee, I have watched it about 30 times. Hopefully he will rescind that. He is a sensible guy, he is a good referee." Liverpool assistant manager Colin Pascoe supported his former club Swansea, saying: "I can see why they are not happy. I didn't think it was a sending off. I think they both slipped. It is unfortunate for Swansea he got sent off." Monk, who faces the prospect of an FA charge for his comments about Stoke's Victor Moses after claiming the winger dived to win a penalty against his side 10 days earlier, was again unhappy with the officials, who he believes are having a major effect on his side's season. "I am not here to have a go at refs but these decisions, it's being proven week after week [that] I am not talking rubbish, I am talking sense," Monk added. "I was emotional at Stoke but what is the point? It is not getting me anywhere." Monk rued the late goals his side conceded, saying: "With some better defending for the first goal and a better decision and we would be going away with a win. We didn't deserve that. We at least deserved to stay it into extra time."
