COC: Mario Balotelli sparks Liverpool rally, Chelsea edge past Shrewsbury

Mario Balotelli sparked Liverpool's comeback as the Reds used two late goals to rally past Swansea City 2-1 at Anfield and reach the Capital One Cup quarterfinals.

Marvin Emnes beat Liverpool understudy keeper Brad Jones to give the visitors the lead.

But with four minutes to play, Balotelli redirected Fabio Borini's cross to equalise.

Swans defender Federico Fernandez was then sent off and Dejan Lovren capitalised to head in the late winner from a free kick.

Chelsea needed a Jermaine Grandison own goal to see off League Two side Shrewsbury 2-1.

Didier Drogba, the Blues' captain for the night, had opened the scoring but the Shrews threatened to force extra time when Andrew Mangan got a leveller.

However, Grandison's own goal shortly afterwards saw Chelsea safely through.

West Bromwich Albion suffered an upset as they were beaten by Championship team Bournemouth 2-1.

Eunan O'Kane and Callum Wilson fired Bournemouth to their first-ever League Cup quarterfinal.

Georgios Samaras had levelled for West Brom when his shot took a deflection off Tommy Elphick, but Wilson raced clear and blast Bournemouth's winner.

Derby County came from two goals behind to thrash Fulham 5-2 at Craven Cottage.

The hosts appeared to be cruising after Moussa Dembele's first Fulham goals fired them into a 2-0 lead shortly before halftime.

But Chris Martin pulled one back from the penalty spot just before the interval and the Cottagers capitulated after the break, as goals by Johnny Russell, Jeff Hendrick and two from Simon Dawkins sent the Championship leaders through.

MK Dons' cup run ended as two late Michael Higdon goals lifted Sheffield United to a 2-1 win.

The hosts, who had beaten Manchester United 4-0 in the second round, took the lead on a Benik Afobe's penalty in the 67th minute.

But Higdon netted a header to equalise in the 86th minute, and then scored the winner deep into stoppage time to put Sheffield United into the quarterfinals.
