Tottenham unable to summon any brilliance against Chelsea

ESPN FC's Craig Burley recaps Chelsea's dominant performance against Tottenham on their way to claiming the Capital One Cup trophy.

Two deflections, two goals for Chelsea. A Christian Eriksen free kick that rattled the bar for Spurs. Sometimes games come down to fine margins, but only a die-hard Lilywhite would claim that Tottenham were unlucky in the Capital One Cup final. In all the key areas, Chelsea were just that bit better and the right team won.

The loss will hurt, though, because Spurs know that their London rivals were there for the taking. Chelsea have been on a run of indifferent form in the last few weeks, and...

Diego Costa's vintage performance leads Chelsea to Wembley glory

ESPN FC's Craig Burley recaps Chelsea's dominant performance against Tottenham on their way to claiming the Capital One Cup trophy.

LONDON -- Roman Abramovich hasn't always had a lot of luck with big-money strikers at Chelsea. Signed for the first time 11 years ago, Didier Drogba was clearly a palpable hit, while Fernando Torres offered mostly misses for 50 million pounds. Andrei Shevchenko was another crushing disappointment who never seemed more than a fraction of the player he had once been. Mateja Kezman, Adrian Mutu, Hernan Crespo, for one reason or another, none of them enjoyed the success his price tag implied.

But...

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho: I need to feed myself with titles

ESPN FC's Craig Burley recaps Chelsea's dominant performance against Tottenham on their way to claiming the Capital One Cup trophy.

Jose Mourinho was overjoyed to satisfy his hunger for silverware with a first trophy of his second spell as Chelsea boss following a 2-0 Capital One Cup final defeat of Tottenham at Wembley.

Captain John Terry's first cup final goal and a second-half own goal by Kyle Walker which Diego Costa could claim saw the Blues prevail and Mourinho secure a third League Cup.

It was his 10th win in 12 major finals and his 21st trophy, in just his 15th year in management.

His first trophy in England, the 2005...

Chelsea defence rises up to stop Spurs and claim silverware

ESPN FC's Craig Burley recaps Chelsea's dominant performance against Tottenham on their way to claiming the Capital One Cup trophy.

Chelsea claimed the first piece of silverware this season with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham in the Capital One Cup final at Wembley.

Spurs started the match better as Chelsea struggled to adapt to the 4-3-3 system deployed by manager Jose Mourinho. With Nemanja Matic suspended and John Obi Mikel injured, Kurt Zouma was the surprise selection in midfield. The Blues' unfamiliarity with the system allowed Tottenham to establish their rhythm, with Christian Eriksen running the game. However, Chelsea...

Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino: Capital One Cup defeat is first step

ESPN FC's Craig Burley recaps Chelsea's dominant performance against Tottenham on their way to claiming the Capital One Cup trophy.

Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino is proud of his players despite losing the Capital One Cup final 2-0 to Chelsea, but insists his young side must use the experience to improve.

Spurs started brightly in Sunday's Wembley final but failed to defend a free kick late in the first half, with John Terry pouncing to send Chelsea into half-time a goal ahead.

Diego Costa then saw his shot fly in off Kyle Walker 11 minutes after the interval, and Pochettino's side struggled to find a way back into the game...
