New-look Sunderland confident ahead of QPR match

The more condescending kind of Manchester United supporter, unaware of what was about to happen in the League Cup at MK Dons, saw the visit to Sunderland last weekend as one of their "easy" games.

United were fortunate to get away from the Stadium of Light with a point.

Perhaps the worst approach Gus Poyet's team could take to Saturday's match at Queens Park Rangers would be that this is, in turn, one of the "easy" games of Sunderland's season.

Hockaday vows to fight on after losing West Yorkshire derby

After a fourth defeat in six games, Dave Hockaday's future at Leeds remains uncertain.

Leeds head coach Dave Hockaday vowed to fight on following a fourth defeat in six outings as Bradford secured local bragging rights with a 2-1 victory in the Capital One Cup.

It was the League One side's first win over their West Yorkshire rivals in almost 28 years and Hockaday conceded that his position would likely come under further scrutiny after a third successive defeat.

Going out of the Capital One Cup at the first hurdle is no great disaster for Burnley, but the 1-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night did highlight a number of areas of concern.

Sean Dyche rotated his squad for the Lancashire-Yorkshire encounter at Turf Moor, making seven changes to the team that lost 1-0 at Swansea at the weekend. Matt Gilks and Stephen Ward made their debuts, while Ashley Barnes and Marvin Sordell came in up front.

It was a chance for squad players to make their...

QPR subs come up short in COC

Queens Park Rangers' boss Harry Redknapp criticised his players but had no regrets over selection after crashing out of the Capital One Cup at League Two Burton.

Redknapp made nine changes for the second-round tie and paid the price as Adam McGurk secured a 1-0 win for the underdogs with a superb 77th-minute free-kick at the Pirelli Stadium.
