Esperance to face Zamalek in African Champions League as they chase trio of titles

Esperance de Tunis players hold hold up the trophy after winning the CAF Champion League final in controversial fashion.
Defending CAF Champions League winners Esperance face Zamalek in this year's quarterfinals.

Defending champions Esperance of Tunisia were drawn against Cairo giants Zamalek in the African Champions League quarterfinals, ensuring the sides will play each other three times over the next month.

Wednesday's Champions League draw pitted them together again over two legs with Zamalek...

Africa's finest await CAF Champions League quarterfinals draw

For the first time since the expansion of the CAF Champions League to include a quarterfinals stage, all of the eight teams to reach the knockout stages are former winners.

Since becoming the second South African team to lift the title in 2016, the Brazilians have remained a thorn in the side of Africa's established giants, one of the few sides south of the Sahara to do regular damage to the northern teams.

Morocco's Wydad, who beat Sundowns in last season's semi-finals,...

Heated Sundowns-Wydad rivalry to be renewed in CAF Champions League

The draw for the group stage of the 2019-20 CAF Champions League has produced a renewal of one of African football's most heated rivalries of recent years, with South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns and Moroccan club Wydad Athletic Club of Casablanca pooled together yet again.

It's the fourth successive edition of the tournament in which Downs and Wydad will cross swords.

Their rivalry dates back to the 2017 tournament, when the Moroccans ended Sundowns' reign as African kings with a penalty shootout...
