Burnley sign Matthew Lowton on three-year deal from Aston Villa

Matthew Lowton has become Burnley's first signing following their relegation to the Championship.

The 26-year-old right-back, a product of Sheffield United's academy, has left Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee after agreeing a three-year deal at Turf Moor.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche told his club's official website: "Even back to his days at Sheffield United, I always thought Matt was a very good player and one who I think is motivated to go again.

"He has been at a big club in Aston Villa and wants to get back to the Premier League. The challenge for him now is to play regular first-team football and help Burnley to get back there and we look forward to welcoming him into the group.''

Lowton, who made 82 appearances in all competitions for Villa, will help fill the void left by Kieran Trippier, who joined Tottenham last week.
