Uli Hoeness steps down as Bayern Munich president

Shaka Hislop feels both Arsene Wenger and Bayern Munich lost an opportunity with the club rejecting him.

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness is taking a back seat after more than 40 years at the forefront of the club.

The 67-year-old Hoeness said Friday he was stepping down, ending a tenure that began when he first took over as general manager in May 1979 -- when he was only 27.

"I'm still relaxed, but when I walk into the likely full Olympiahalle, it will certainly be emotional," Hoeness told local broadcaster Bayern3 ahead of his final appearance as president at the club's annual general meeting...

Eintracht Frankfurt captain David Abraham has been banned for seven weeks for knocking over Freiburg coach Christian Streich during a Bundesliga game.

Freiburg were leading 1-0 when the ball went out of play in stoppage time. Streich let the ball go by as Abraham tried to recover it, and the Frankfurt captain body-checked the coach with his shoulder as he ran past. Upset Freiberg players and staff then chased the defender onto the field.

Arsene Wenger lands job at FIFA as chief of global football development

Shaka Hislop feels both Arsene Wenger and Bayern Munich lost an opportunity with the club rejecting him.

FIFA has named Arsene Wenger as their chief of global football development, world football's governing body said on Wednesday.

Wenger had been in the running to take over as Bayern Munich boss following Niko Kovac's sacking, before the club decided to pursue other options.

Sources told ESPN FC that Wenger was set to take up a technical role  at world football's governing body but still has hope of returning to club management.
