Brisbane striker Adam Taggart needs more than his current purple patch of scoring to break into the Socceroos squad, his coach John Aloisi says.
Taggart has netted five goals in five A-League games this season, including a brace last weekend, to stake a claim to be part of Australia's squad for the Asian Cup in January.
But while Aloisi is certain the 25-year-old marksman will one day return to the international ranks, he says Taggart needs a prolonged stretch of form to warrant a Socceroos berth.
"It's a national team, a good three or four games doesn't mean that you deserve to get in the national team," Aloisi told reporters in Brisbane on Thursday.
"Do I believe that Tags will get back into the national team? Yes.
"Do I think that he's going to make it to the Asian Cup? I don't know.
"But in the future, in a year or whatever, I know that he will be playing regular football in the national team."
Taggart, a key to Brisbane's hopes for victory against Adelaide United in Friday night's A-League game in Adelaide, earnt seven Socceroos caps between 2012-14, including the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The attacker admitted midweek he had yet to do enough this season to earn a recall to the Socceroos.
And Aloisi urged Taggart, who joined Brisbane this season from Perth Glory, to focus purely on his role with the Roar rather than worry about national honours.
"He has got a lot left in him," Aloisi said.
"He has to take it game by game -- and he does. He needs to work every day in training -- and he does, he works on his game."
