Roar coach facing welcome selection issue

In-form Brisbane are poised to get four first-teamers back from injury as the good news keeps coming for the A-League leaders.

Veterans Shane Stefanutto and Jade North, as well as goalkeeper Michael Theo and midfielder Liam Miller are all likely to be in contention for selection for next Friday's trip to Adelaide.

The quartet's absence hardly seemed to matter in Saturday's 1-0 win over Perth in Brisbane, the Roar's sixth home win in a row to equal a club record.

Brisbane's form means while the four may be available, there's no guarantee coach Mike Mulvey will instantly recall all of them and upset a winning formula.

"A winning team always puts itself in the frame," Mulvey said.

"When I arrived one of the things I talked about was the competition for places and having two players for each position.

"We're slowly getting there.

"Corey's (Corey Brown) come in for Shane. Donks (James Donachie) has come in for Jade. Matty Acton has come in for Michael.

"All those lads you're talking about, Liam as well, they're all in the dressing room before the game wishing everyone the best because we're all in it together.

"It's a real special place at the moment."

While everything is going well for Brisbane, it's a vastly different story for the Glory.

Already missing Scott Jamieson to a season-ending injury and with captain Jacob Burns still suspended for next week's home visit by Wellington, the loss of striker Shane Smeltz to an ankle injury in the first half against the Roar was the last thing coach Alistair Edwards needed.

While Edwards is confident French star William Gallas will recover from a calf strain to take on the Phoenix, he's more doubtful about Smeltz's ability to recover.

"That's the difference between us and the Brisbane Roar," Edwards said.

"We've just been unfortunate with little niggly injuries but I think the way we're generally performing, we're just going to get stronger and stronger.

"We're pretty pleased with the way that we're progressing."
