Brighton striker Glenn Murray and his wife Stacey have been arrested on suspicion of tax fraud, according to reports.

Murray, 34, joined Brighton -- who he played for from 2008-11 and again for a six-month loan last season from Bournemouth -- in January 2017 and has scored seven goals in all competitions this season to become their leading scorer.

The striker and his wife were taken into custody on Tuesday night and computers, business and personal records were reportedly seized.

"A husband and wife have been arrested as part of an investigation into a suspected £1.1 million tax fraud," an HMRC spokesperson told the BBC.

"The couple were interviewed by HMRC and have both been released under investigation.

"The man was arrested on suspicion of evading Income Tax and VAT, and cheating the public revenue. The woman was arrested on suspicion of evading Income Tax, and cheating the public revenue."

The investigation is ongoing.
