Neymar limps out of Brazil training before Copa

Neymar is undergoing treatment for a knee injury after pulling up during training with Brazil on Tuesday and subsequently missing out on Wednesday's session too.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward limped away early from the Selecao's session at their training base in Teresopolis as they were preparing for next month's Copa America which takes place in Brazil (all matches will air live in the U.S. on ESPN+).

The former Barcelona player passed initial tests which did not detect any serious injury but will remain under observation according to Brazil's Football Confederation (CBF).

Neymar appeared to be in pain after attempting a shot under pressure from defender Thiago Silva and limped away before crouching down and holding his knee. He left the field soon after alongside Brazil's team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar.

Neymar had been fully involved in the squad's activities since arriving at the national team's training ground on Saturday, but it was announced on Sunday while the players were on a day off that he had lost the captaincy of the national team, with veteran teammate Dani Alves taking the armband.

A CBF statement revealed coach Tite had informed Neymar of his decision to replace him as captain on Saturday, when the striker arrived at the national team's training ground outside Rio de Janeiro.

The change was made after a series of controversies involving Neymar including an altercation with a fan during the French Cup final in April.

The Copa America will be played in Brazil between June 14 and July 7. Brazil are in Group A with Bolivia, Venezuela and Peru.
