Brazil boss Tite: Germany friendly 'emotionally important' for us

Tite says Brazil's humiliating 7-1 loss to Germany in the 2014 World Cup semifinal is a thing of the past, and he is hoping his side can impose their will on Joachim Low's team when they kick off in Berlin on Tuesday.

Brazil cruised past Russia 3-0 in their first of two international friendlies this month. Second-half goals from Miranda, Philippe Coutinho and Paulinho ensured a comfortable night for the five-time world champs despite the absence of star forward Neymar.

However, all eyes will be on Brazil's first senior meeting with Germany since their shocking defeat on home soil four years ago. And Tite told reporters following Friday's win that the occasion won't be lost on his team.

"The 7-1 game is the most recent game and of course we know that we'll play Germany in Berlin, they were world champions, they beat us 7-1 and it's a step that's passed," Tite said. "We are in a building period and emotionally it will be important.

"Against Germany, we will want to play football, to be competitive, mentally strong, and put an idea in play. We are looking to impose our way of playing."

Defence played a role in Brazil's victory in Moscow, with Alisson recording his 13th clean sheet in 23 matches with the Selecao. But he credited Thiago Silva for a second-half assist when the PSG defender headed a ball off the goal line in the to keep Russia out.

"It was a positive game for us, a tough game. It was important for our preparation, they are opponents like we will face at the World Cup," the Roma keeper said.

"It's still good that, on that ball, Thiago saved ahead of the line, after Miranda. This is the spirit of the team. We were able to play well without suffering goals, that is always our objective in matches. Congratulations to everyone."

Douglas Costa filled in on the left wing for the injured Neymar, who is back in Brazil as he recovers from surgery on a broken bone in his right foot.

Of his stand-in performance, the Juventus man said: "I think it wasn't only me, but the entire team played very well, we knew how to have patience, to create opportunities. And thankfully we were able to score.

"I think that this is the way, the things that I have been doing at Juventus, I have been looking to do here also. I think that I enjoyed it well.

"I am used to playing on both sides. I've had a lot of time to adapt to both sides, so I don't prefer one."

Miranda hailed the "difficult" victory and described his opener, in which Silva's header forced Russia goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev to parry the ball into the Inter Milan man's path.

He said: "The game was really difficult, we suffered many counter-attacks. Thankfully, we knew how to handle the difficult moments in the game, we were happy on a set piece. I believed that Thiago would redirect and I was happy to score the goal.

"It was a big test, a tough national team, that plays hard. We were able to support well, and I'm happy with the result."

Meanwhile, Tite had special praise for playmaker Coutinho, who played centrally against the Russians.

Tite added: "He played very well, outside, roaming, inside, he is a polite and competitive player. Someone can be competitive, strong, and be polite at the same time. He his our own example.

"Sometimes people confuse that the polite aren't competitive. He can execute another role easily."
