Neymar has what it takes to break Pele's Brazil goal record - Cafu

Former Brazil captain Cafu believes Neymar has what it takes to surpass Pele's record goal haul for Brazil.

Three-time World Cup winner Pele is the all-time goals leader for Brazil with 77 from 91 matches, an average of 0.84 goals per game for the legendary attacker.

At just 25 years old, Barcelona star Neymar is already fourth on Brazil's scoring list, amassing 50 goals in 75 international appearances for a 0.66 goals-per-game average.

And Cafu says the former Santos product has the talent and time to overtake the man regarded as the greatest to ever play the game.

"All records exist only to be beaten. Of course, Neymar has got it in him," said the legendary Cafu, who is Brazil's all-time caps leader and a two-time World Cup winner.

"He's young and has time on his side. If he continues playing as he is now, then there is every possibility he will [overtake Pele]."

Cafu, now 46, made an astounding 142 appearances for his country, winning a number of trophies throughout his storied career.

Asked how he played at such a high level for so long, the former Sao Paulo, Roma and AC Milan right-back credited his love of the game.

"It is purely down to strength of will, my devotion to football and the effort I put in during all this time."
