Brazil's Philippe Coutinho: Playing against Argentina a dream come true

Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho has spoken of his pride at helping Brazil beat South American rivals Argentina 3-0 on Thursday night.

Coutinho carried his excellent club form onto the international stage as he broke the deadlock in Belo Horizonte with a powerful long-range effort on 25 minutes in the World Cup qualifier.

Further goals from Neymar and Paulinho helped lift Brazil to the top of the CONMEBOL standings after recording their fifth straight win in qualifiers.

"Being in the squad is a very proud moment for me," Coutinho said. "To be able to participate in such a group, next to great players, playing a classic like this is cause for much happiness.

"But of course we are still trying to achieve our ultimate goal, which is qualifying for the World Cup.

"Playing against Argentina has always been a big dream, every child dreams of wearing the shirt of Brazil and playing a classic like this.

"Today we prevailed on the field, the crowd helped a lot since the first whistle. We leave here very happy."

Tite's side return to action on Tuesday as they travel to face Peru, hoping to extend their lead at the top of the South American section of the 2018 World Cup qualification.
