Oscar and Dede see Brazil to victory

Oscar celebrates after netting the opening goal against Zambia.
Oscar celebrates after netting the opening goal against Zambia.

Second-half goals from Oscar and Dede earned Brazil a 2-0 friendly win over Zambia on Tuesday in Beijing.

Highlights: Brazil 2-0 Zambia (Pac Rim only)

Chelsea playmaker Oscar opened the scoring in the 59th minute with a deflected 25-yard shot and then defender Dede headed home a second six minutes later to wrap up the win.

The victory was no more than the World Cup hosts deserved as they dominated from the start, with Neymar hitting the crossbar from a superb long-range free-kick early on and Ramires spurning a clear chance when one-on-one with Zambia goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene.

Mweene also produced top-drawer saves to keep out Pato's header and a cross-shot from Dani Alves as the first half finished goalless.

The five-time world champions took the lead just before the hour mark when Oscar's powerful effort from outside the box struck a defender before looping over Mweene and into the far corner of the net.

Oscar, who was one of six second-half substitutes introduced by Luiz Felipe Scolari, then almost made it 2-0 from the very next attack, only to see his shot come back off the bar. But Brazil did not have to wait long to add a second with Dede glancing home Neymar's left-wing free-kick from close range.

That was the Cruzeiro centre-back's first goal for his country and he was understandably delighted to get off the mark, saying: "I am very happy with my first goal in the national squad. This was my dream.

"Now, the World Cup is near and I have to give my life in every game to get closer to my aim."

Defender Maxwell, who played the whole match, also hopes he was able to push his claims, saying: "It was important to me to play so people can see me in the Canarinho shirt and also the boss. I gave my best."

Managerless Australia bounced back from 6-0 thumping by France to record a morale-boosting 3-0 win over Canada.

German Holger Osieck was dismissed following that thrashing on Friday, Australia's second successive 6-0 reverse after an equally heavy defeat to Brazil last month.

On Tuesday night at Fulham's Craven Cottage the Socceroos finally had something to shout about.

Josh Kennedy headed in the opener inside 30 seconds and Dario Vidosic flicked in a second in the 53rd minute. Mathew Leckie sealed the win with his first international goal with 12 minutes remaining.

Japan suffered a second defeat in a week as they lost 1-0 away to Belarus.

Yan Tigorev scored the only goal of the game on 44 minutes.

Japan have already qualified for next summer's World Cup finals in Brazil, but defeat in Belarus follows a 2-0 reverse in Serbia last Friday night.

South Korea recovered from conceding the opening goal against Mali to win 3-1 in Cheonan.

West Ham striker Modibo Maiga fired the African side ahead on 28 minutes only to see Koo Ja-cheol's penalty before half-time.

Lee Chung-yong set up Son Heung-min to put the hosts ahead a minute after the restart and the Bolton winger was again provider for Kim Bo-kyung after 57 minutes.
