Fabian Johnson unhappy with Gladbach display despite scoring

Fabian Johnson scored a late equaliser for Borussia Monchengladbach in Wednesday's 1-1 draw at RB Leipzig, but was still not pleased with his side's performance.

United States international Johnson, 28, levelled proceedings in the 84th minute for Gladbach after they had fallen behind to an early goal by Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

Gladbach had 58 percent possession of the ball, yet for most of the match failed to get into dangerous positions and recorded only one shot on target from a total of three attempts.

"We did not want to play like that. This should not be our style," Johnson told reporters. "But that was the only way for us."

Gladbach coach Andre Schubert, celebrating his one-year anniversary in the job, echoed Johnson's comments.

"It's difficult to have good organisation against such an opponent because they are moving forward quickly when winning balls," he told a news conference.

"We like to play differently, but that makes it even more important to take on the challenge. We especially did that after the break."

Since beating Hertha Berlin 4-1 in October 2015, Gladbach have won only one of their 13 away matches in the Bundesliga -- a 2-0 victory at Darmstadt on the final day of last season.

Leipzig, meanwhile, remain undefeated in the Bundesliga this term, collecting two wins and two draws since their promotion to the top flight.

"We were close to the victory but had to concede the equaliser with only a few minutes left on the clock," Leipzig coach Ralph Hasenhuttl said of Wednesday's draw.

"We defended really well for all of the match but one occasion. And I knew that a team like Gladbach does not need many chances to get back into the match."
